Jelen tanulmány a COVID–19-világjárvány idején munkájukat elvesztett emberek katonai szolgálatvállalását mutatja be. A Magyar Honvédség – feladatrendszere mellett, Magyarország kormányának gazdaságmentő akcióterve részeként – elsőként vállalt szerepet a munkanélküli állampolgárok foglalkoztatásában. Az átmeneti jelleggel létrehozott speciális önkéntes tartalékos katonai szolgálatot vállalók körében végzett kutatás a katonai pályaválasztásuk megismerésére és jövőbeni életcéljaikra fókuszál. A félig strukturált interjúk (49 csoportos interjú) Grounded Theory módszerrel történt elemzését követően megállapítható, hogy az önként vállalt speciális szolgálat megélhetést és keretet ad a résztvevőknek, a jövővel kapcsolatos terveik azonban minimálisak.
