A vallásközi párbeszéd jelentősége a libanoni válságkezelésben

Az elmúlt évtizedek fegyveres konfliktusai gyakran olyan területen zajlottak, ahol az interkulturális és a vallási különbségek nagy jelentőséggel bírtak. Kiemelke-dően igaz ez a közel-keleti országokra, ahol a keresztények vallásuk miatt állami disz kriminációval, sok esetben nyílt üldöztetéssel találták szemben magukat. Bár Libanon az egyetlen állam a Közel-Keleten, amelynek tartósan keresztény vezetője van, a keresztények százalékos aránya a térségben – főként a muszlimok termékenységi rátája miatt – az elmúlt évszázad alatt csaknem a felére csökkent. Mivel az ország etnikai, vallási és felekezeti szempontból meglehetősen heterogén, a békés együttélés – főként az 1941-ben kikiáltott szuverenitás óta – az államot kihívás elé állította. Bár a térségbeli véres polgárháború (1975–1990) 30 éve lezárult, a tartós béke időszaka nem azonnal köszöntött be. Mind a polgárháború lezárásának előmozdításában, mind az azt követő megbékélésben elvitathatatlan érdemei vannak az elmúlt évtizedek pápáinak és az Apostoli Szentszék mérsékelt és kiegyensúlyozott diplomáciai törekvéseinek.
