Abstract

The leadership of the Hungarian Defence Forces has been dealing with the potential ways of renewing the military equipped with Soviet/Russian military technology for decades. The renewal process is aimed far beyond national defence requirements since economic, political, and defence policy factors must also be taken into consideration. In such a multi-interest driven environment a long-term solution is to be identified which equally ensures the meeting of domestic defence requirements, and Alliance expectations. The commissioning of H145M light helicopters in Hungary marks the introduction of an aerial vehicle representing modern technology in the ranks of the Hungarian Defence Forces and a change of culture in the rotary wing units. The paper presents the details of this process.
