The presence of the Czech aircraft manufacturer Aero Vodochody in the military industry dates back more than a hundred years. In addition to self-designed aircraft, they were also involved in the licensing of other types and in the manufacture of passenger cars during and before World War II. The company has been able to design and manufacture the kite structure of gas turbine training aircraft since the 1960s. Following the L-29 Dolphin, production of the L-39 Albatros training aircraft, designed according to modern principles, began in 1971 at the Aero plant. From the late 1990s, the more advanced L-59 Super Albatros was followed by the L-159 ALCA and L-39 Next Generation. The development of the new type still poses challenges for the Vodochody plant today.
