The location of Hungary being in the middle of the Carpathian basin generates specific requirements for civilian and military air traffic control radar performances. The fact that Hungary located in the middle of the Carpathian Basin places special requirements on military surveillance radars. The military expectations of radars must adapt to the fact that the surrounding mountain close distances allow a hidden approach to our borders. Intensive stationary clutter formations, changeable weather phenomena and microwave propagation phenomenon further increase the demands on radars performances, making target detection, tracking and identification difficult. The article briefly reviews and evaluates some important performance features of the ELM-2084 MMR, paying special attention to the presentation and evaluation of the advantages and challenges presented by the operating frequency. Within the framework of the National Defense and Military Development Program (HHP), Hungary is purchasing 11 Israeli radars.
