The government decided to purchase 16 Airbus H225M helicopters within the framework of the Defence and Military Development Program. The procurement is aimed at replacing morally and technically obsolete transport helicopters. The main consideration of the selection was to obtain a weapon system that can meet the emerging external military threats and other challenges at the technical level of the 21st century in the NATO alliance system. At the same time, it fulfills interoperability requirements arising
from the NATO system, and meets the military needs that have been formulated by the Hungarian Defence Forces and is able to manage the rescue and the disaster prevention tasks. The H225M helicopter is a long-established, mature design that has been proven in many countries around the world. Its multi-tasking is displayed in addition to the external weight of the person and
cargo, capable of lifting loads, firefighting, performing search and rescue tasks, and can be armed and refueled on a wide range.
