Az Oroszországi Föderáció Fegyveres Erői által 2022. február 24-én Ukrajna ellen indított támadó hadműveletekben az orosz Fekete-tengeri Flotta feladata lett volna az ukrán ellenállás megtörése délen, az Odessza, Mikolajiv, Herszon irányában indított orosz támadás megkönnyítése érdekében. Mára egyértelművé vált, hogy ennek a feladatnak a Fekete-tengeri Flotta nem tudott megfelelni. A háború menete fontos tapasztalatokkal szolgál arra nézve, hogy miért és hogyan alakulhatott ki ez a helyzet, s bizonyos mértékig a tengeri hadviselés egésze szempontjából releváns következtetésekre is alapot ad. A háromrészes cikksorozat ezeket a tapasztalatokat és következtetéseket tekinti át, az első – bevezető – részben a Fekete-tengerre, az ottani orosz–ukrán erőviszonyok alakulására, illetve a tengerészeti stratégia és taktika legfontosabb kérdéseire kitekintve.
