Using minefields as an engineer barrier has only just a centurylong history. It has been given a priority role primarily during military land operations. Mine warfare has been slightly relegated to the background in recent decades, with many countries abandoning the use of anti-personnel landmines, for example. However, Russia and the United States have also paid attention to developments of countermobility, the “smart” mines and mine laying devices endowed with artificial intelligence appeared in their arsenals. On the following pages, we briefly present the Russian possibilities and new equipment of mine laying.
