After World War I through the experiences of the gas war the great powers tried to enhance the chemical warfare material produce. These states built facilities where they tried out the chemical warfare materials. By the fear of the enemies chemical warfare materials they started to build up the gas protection in the armies. The great powers established research groups with the leading of the armies. These research groups task were to develop new combat gases.
