Abstract

Cycling troops have been present in the forces of the AustroHungarian Monarchy since 1882, gradually reaching the level of applicability in the formation. At the turn of the century, they were organized in 1911 as part of the Hunter Battalions, with the plan to use them for rapid advance. The deployment of targeted cycling squadrons was planned to be tailored to the evolution of the war: the Italian battlefield, which had extremely difficult terrain, was fought throughout the World War.
