At the end of the 1990s, the need arose from the aircrew for a control unit providing continuous and stored (pre-programmable) tuning, a service similar to that used on the Western machines. The study describes the brief history of the ZU M type electronic tuning block and its various versions, developed by the Hungarian Aircraft Repair Plant and still used on the Mi-17 and Mi-24 helicopters as the control unit for the Russian-made R-862 and R-863 VHF-UHF radio stations of military aircraft. Developed 20 years ago and improved several times since then, the ZU-M tuning block is still in use and is well proven in practice.
