The purpose of my writing is to provide a brief insight into the development and preparation of a weapon of outstanding moral and social significance in Japanese culture. The article describes the cult role nurtured from the past along historical eras, which is closely linked to the moral and legal status of the leading social group in Edo-era Japan, the bushi - an elite military stratum. The article goes into detail about the technology of sword making, describing step by step the methods that have been refined over the centuries, resulting in the birth of a tool that deserves the rank of an art object.
