Half a century ago, on the summer of 1971 was transported to the Moon the first human driven vehicle. In the following year it was followed by two more similar ones. In the meantime and since then several other robotic vehicles had been taken not only to the Moon, but to the Mars, too. We review the history of these vehicles, due to its Hungarian relevance with special emphasis to the Lunar Roving Vehicle, used in the Apollo program. However, we do not cover the work of robotic probes, i.e. orbiters, as well as landers unable to move, used in the exploration of these celestial bodies.
