In the first half of the 1940s, the equipment of the fighting Royal Hungarian Army – including the infantry firearms supply – left much to be desired. The domestic arms factories (e.g. Fémáru-, Fegyver- és Gépgyár Rt.) and firearms designers (e.g. Ferenc Gebauer) could not keep up with the emerging needs. In addition to the replacement and development of firearms (e.g. 1943 M repeating rifle), it was during this period when heavy weapons had to be converted from rimfire to grooved cartridges (e.g. 1907/1931 M machine gun in batches of 150-150 pieces per month from October 1943). [16] In this situation the Institute of Military Technology tried to look for constructions that are easy to manufacture and to find new production capacities (e.g. Hunting Ammunition Factory Nagytétény).
