In 1988 the development of cal. 50 Gepard (Cheetah) rifle was completed and the prototype was ready. There have been in service about 90 pieces mass-produced Gepard M1 rifles at Hungarian Army. The author presents the circumstances and process of the development, from the emergence of the need to the preparation of the prototype and the execution of test shots for control measurements.
