The author is director of the Hungarian Defense Forces Force Modernization and Transformation Command, Modernization Directorate, and as an expert on the subject, he scrutinizes the questions of dividing combat vehicles by generation. First of all, it examines the perception of tank generations by American, British, Russian, Polish and Canadian experts, and then proposes the use of a new generation classification based on different approaches to the topic. It distinguishes seven generations, which it delimits in time and presents in detail in terms of technical development. He supports his findings with numerous concrete examples and technical data included in tables. At the same time, he draws attention to the fact that there will always be unique developments, hard-toclassify examples that give rise to professional debates.
