Neumann János nevét sokan ismerik, de életművét – különösen annak részleteit – jóval kevesebben. A tudós rendkívüli szellemi örökségének értékelésével még adós az utókor. A magyar származású géniusz születésének 120. évfordulója alkalmat ad arra, hogy tudományos eredményeit katonai szemszögből is bemutassuk. Nem csak a kvantummechnika matematikai alapjait lefektető, a játékelméletet és a numerikus meteorológiát megalapozó és számos egyéb tudományterületen alkotó tudós volt ő, hanem haditechnikai fejlesztései az elmúlt hat évtizedben a világpolitika alakulását is befolyásolták.
